2026 Hong Kong Mathematics Kangaroo Contest
Date
March 21, 2026 (Saturday) for Kindergarten to Grade 6 levels
March 22, 2026 (Sunday) for Grade 7~12 levels
Eligibility
Only students enrolled in kindergartens, primary schools, or secondary schools in Hong Kong or Macau are eligible to participate. Students may register for one or more levels but are only allowed to compete in levels corresponding to or above their current grade.
Format
The contest will be conducted onsite in a paper-based format. The specific contest location will be announced on March 17, 2026, along with the release of the admission ticket.
Levels and Time Schedule
Seven contest sets cover all grades in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools.
Maternelle for For K2&K3
March 21, 11:00~12:00
Pre-Ecolier for Grade 1&2
March 21, 14:00~15:15
Ecolier for Grade 3&4
March 21, 9:00~10:15
Benjamin for Grade 5&6
March 21, 16:00~17:15
Cadet for Grade 7&8
March 22, 9:00~10:15
Junior for Grade 9&10
March 22, 11:00~12:15
Student for Grade 11&12
March 22, 14:00~15:15

Students can participate in contest levels corresponding to or higher than their grades. For example, a grade 3 student can attend both Ecolier and Benjamin contests.
Exam Structure
Each contest consists of 25 multiple-choice questions with the following mark scheme:
8 x 3' + 9 x 4' + 8 x 5' = 100'.
There is no penalty for wrong answers.
Language
English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese
Problems will be read out in English, Cantonese and Mandarin to students in the Kindergarten and Pre-Ecolier contests.
Awards
For each contest level, participants are divided into two groups by grades for ranking and awards. For example in Cadet, participants in Grade 7 or below form one group, while students in Grade 8 form the other group.

First Prize: Awarded to participants with rank #1 to #5 in each group.
2
Second Prize: Awarded to participants with rank #6 to #15 in each group.
3
Third Prize: Awarded to participants with rank #16 to #30 in each group.
P
Peak Award: Awarded to participants in the top 10% in each group.
E
Elite Award: Awarded to participants in the top 10%~25% in each group.
M
Merit Award: Awarded to participants in the top 25%~50% in each group.
Registration
Registration will open in mid-December 2025.
Early bird discounts will be available for those who register before February 9, 2026.
